Amarube Viaduct

A Bridge to the Sky
Amarube Viaduct opened for service in 1912 and supported the operation of JR West's San'in Main Line from Yoroi and Amarube stations. After years of use, the structure was finally replaced in 2008 with a new concrete bridge. However, three of the original vertical support girders, made in the Meiji period approximately 100 years ago, and some of the sleepers and rail were conserved and renovated into the sky promenade Sora no Eki. Access to the sky promenade is located under the bridge as is a 2,400m2 park and arbor. From the promenade you can get a close up view of the San’in Main Line passing by on the new Amarube Viaduct. You can also find a little thrill by looking down through the transparent glass floor near the tip of the sky promenade.
