Hozugawa Boat Ride
On the western outskirts of Kyoto, the beautiful scenery of Arashiyama attracts thousands of tourists every year. In Arashiyama, I highly recommend a boat ride on the Hozugawa river. As soon as visitors board the flat-bottomed boats, the adventure begins.
From the boat, you take in the magnificent scenery on either side of the river as the boatmen relate the local history. The landscape changes at different times of year, allowing you to enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms in spring and Japanese maples in autumn.
As well as the views along the way, the ride involves the exciting experience of riding down the river. The flow of the Hozugawa is rather fast, and the boat rolls up and down as you travel. When you reach the end point of the ride, you see the boats of vendors, who sell various Japanese snacks, such as grilled squid and rice balls, and they are really tasty.
If you visit Kyoto, you should go on to Arashiyama and give the Hozugawa boat ride a try. The incredible trip will certainly not disappoint.
